The Signal from the Noise

College Admissions in the Age of AI, Funding Freezes, and DEI Rollbacks

Program:

Join Shalini Uppu, Yale College alum and former college admissions director, in conversation with Jonathan Kim, president of the Yale Club of South Florida, for a wide-ranging conversation on the new landscape of college admissions. We will cover how recent and major changes in university administration will impact how applications are reviewed in future admissions cycles. Shalini will share insights on what distinguishes the most successful applicants in a highly competitive process.

Jonathan Kim, Yale Club of South Florida president, will moderate a Q&A session for families. At the end of this event, students will leave with tools and strategies to elevate their applications and have a little fun in the process.

We invite the Yale Club community, especially any of our families with high school students in grades 9-12 as those students and families will benefit most from this program.

Free on-site parking

About Shalini:

Shalini grew up in Miami and attended Miami Palmetto Senior High. While at Yale, she worked in the admissions office as a student tour guide, panelist, and senior interviewer. She went on to a professional career in admissions and served in some of the most elite undergraduate and graduate admissions offices in the country, including Duke and UChicago. She has personally reviewed thousands of applications, interviewed hundreds of applicants, and chaired admissions committees with final decision-making authority. Shalini returned home to Miami and co-founded an admissions process consultancy to support students and families through a complex, but rewarding, college admissions process.
